Petty village politics denting Wetangula's stature as a National leader - Wamalwa

Wamalwa appeared to be referring to a Friday, March 22 incident in which Speaker Wetangula supporters clashed with those of Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, disrupting the burial ceremony of Sandra Nyongesa, the late wife of former Nominated MCA Phillip Nyongesa.

According to the former Defence Cabinet Secretary, engaging in 'petty partisan politics' has diminished Wetangula's status as a national leader and third-in-command. 

"Let us also pray for  @NAssemblyKE Speaker  @HonWetangula to do the honourable thing and relinquish his Ford Kenya Party position and rise above petty partisan village politics that undermine his stature as a National Leader and the 3rd in command,and safeguard the dignity of his high office that require him to be an impartial Umpire and Arbiter," Wrote Wamalwa on Social platform X. 

"To hold both the position of Speaker and Party Leader that force you to engage in such embarrassing political jete, is clearly untenable,"

In the Friday political clash in which police had to intervene to quell tensions, it was the first time Wetangula and Natembeya were sharing a podium. 

The two leaders have not seen eye to eye, and have openly discussed Mulembe nation unity and the battle for the region's kingpin.

There should be no sacred cows, hii Kenya ni ya amani, tukitaka kugrow tuheshimiane na tukiwa kwa matanga ni kuomboleza,” said Wetangula.

Natembeya stated: “Wanafikiri kuwa kuleta vita wanadhani kuwa huu mchakato utasimama ndio mkoko umealika mauwa, ndio vita imeanza tutapambana hadi pale hii jamii yetu itakuwa liberated...ataleta vita asilete vita lakini hii ndege bado iko kwa runway.”

The sudden turn of events in Trans Nzoia seemingly drew a line between two camps.

Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha stated: “Hii maneno tunaona hapa Trans Nzoia kumeharibika….people must stay in peace, and where there is no order it will be brought by fire by force.”

With the wrangles cut short, the burial ceremony programme carried on, with the family of the deceased laying their kin to rest hurriedly.
