Pharmaceutical Society warns public after mchele expos
The Pharmaceutical Society of
Kenya (PSK) has warned members of the public against buying drugs from
uncertified pharmacies following a Citizen TV exposé on rogue city pharmacies
engaging in the drink spiking menace.
PSK, in a statement on
Wednesday, said customers should purchase drugs from pharmacies that meet the
Green Cross accreditation standards.
“To be a Green Cross Pharmacy
you have to meet certain standards. These standards are designed to keep the
public safe and to ensure effective and efficient pharmaceutical care,” said
the body.
“To the general public,
Please medication if not well used, can be very harmful. It is therefore very
important that you get your medications from a licensed and registered facility
that will dispense registered medications.”
Additionally, members of the
public were advised to ensure that the pharmacist serving them has an
appropriate name tag to distinguish them from unscrupulous ones.
“We at the Pharmaceutical
Society of Kenya support the Pharmacy and Poisons Board in their endeavor to
close the unlicensed facilities and facilities that don’t serve the public by
the letter of the law,” PSK added.
Citizen TV’s Sunday exposé took viewers inside the drink-spiking underworld through the help of a former insider, a lady who had been in the trade for over three years before quitting.
