The Senior Counsel Bar (SCB) has elected a new leadership team, ushering in Philip Murgor as Chairperson, Joyce Majiwa as Vice-Chairperson, and Charles Kanjama as Secretary.
The
trio, endorsed by an overwhelming majority of Senior Counsel, were formally
installed during the SCB’s annual retreat at Diamond Leisure Lodge in Diani on
Wednesday.
Murgor
takes over from Dr. Fred Ojiambo, who retires after more than a decade at the
helm, having succeeded the late Mutula Kilonzo in 2013.
Dr. Ojiambo’s leadership team over
the years included the late Zahir Malik, the late Ken Fraser, and Omesh Kapila.
Following the demise of Mr. Malik
and Mr. Fraser and the retirement of Mr. Kapila, Mr. Murgor stepped in as
interim Vice-Chair and Organizing Secretary, a role he held with what the SCB
described as “indefatigable zeal and dedication.”
Lucy
Muthoni Kambuni, most recently served as Secretary until her retirement, paving
the way for Mr. Kanjama’s appointment.
The Senior Counsel Bar, established in
2003, was first chaired by former Attorney General Amos Wako.
