PHOTOS: Kibra by-election

The much anticipated Kibra by-election kicked off at 6am on Thursday morning.

Polling stations are expected to be open until 5pm in the exercise that has attracted 24 aspirants.

There are 183 polling stations with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission saying the KIEMS kits used for biometrical identification of voters are working optimally.

IEBC has urged voters, candidates and agents to maintain order at the polling stations and avoid wearing or carrying campaign materials.

Among those who have already voted include ODM leader Raila Odinga; Monica Okoth, widow of the late Kibra MP Ken Okoth; ODM candidate Imran Okoth, among others.

There was heavy police presence after a section of voters alleged that there attempts to bribe residents.

One person was taken into police custody after officers saved him from an irate mob that was baying for his blood.
