Pilots who died in Fly SAX plane crash to be buried this weekend

The two pilots who were killed in the plane crash that occurred in the Aberdares will be buried this weekend.

A death announcement in a local daily said Capt. Barbara Wangechi Kamau and First Officer Jean Mureithi will be laid to rest on June 14 and June 15 respectively.

The cortege will leave Montezuma Funeral Home on Thursday for the funeral service of Capt. Kamau at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Nairobi.

She will then be buried at Karura Kanyungu in Kiambu County.

Capt. Kamau was an alumnus of the United States International University-Africa (USIU).

Family and friends of First Officer Mureithi are meeting for prayers at St. Andrews PCEA Church in Nairobi from June 11-13.

“The cortege will leave Lee Funeral Home on Friday June 15th at 6.30am. The funeral service and burial will be held at our Giakanja home at 10am,” the notice reads.

Mureithi was a student at Consolata Primary School, Mount Kenya Academy and later the Kenya High School.

She then pursued her university studies at Strathmore before joining the Kenya School of Flying.

The ill-fated Fly SAX plane with registration no. 5Y CAC was headed to Nairobi from Kitale when it went missing on Tuesday last week.

The control tower at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport lost communication with the aircraft and a search and rescue team was immediately deployed.

However, it was not until two days later that the wreckage of the plane was spotted in the Aberdares during an aerial surveillance.

All the passengers and crew aboard the plane were found dead.
