Mavoko MP Patrick Makau has asked President William Ruto to reach out to Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga and hold a dialogue over the high cost of living.

Speaking in Kyumbi, Machakos County while distributing bursaries to needy students,  Mavoko MP Makau said the two leaders must now sit now and agree on how they will lower the cost of living and ease the economic burden that Kenyans are currently experiencing.

“Na mimi nauliza Ruto, tafadhali ita Raila mkae chini muangalie hii maneno ya uchumi ya Kenya. Ukikaa tu hivi ukimuita mganga, my friend utaumia,” he said.

The Wiper party legislature faulted President William Ruto for blaming Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration for economic woes that have hit the country saying the economic rebuild does not require side shows, chest-thumping and name-calling.

“Kenya's economy will not be built by sideshows, name-calling, and chest-thumping. Uhuru Kenyatta did his ten years and went into retirement. Do not drag him into this mess,” he says.

He has also asked President Ruto to implement the policies he outlined to Kenyans in his manifesto while campaigning for the top seat.

“Show us where you will take us as Kenyans with your economic blueprint. Stop saying resources were plundered by the previous administration,” he opined.

Patrick Makau’s sentiment comes a day after religious leaders drawn from the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK), the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB), the Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM), and the Hindu Council of Kenya asked President William Ruto to offer forward-looking leadership by reaching out to opposition leaders to promote unity and peace for the betterment of the country.

“As a symbol of national unity, we ask you to focus on oneness. It is of essence that you reach out to the opposition to promote dialogue for the betterment of our nation,” Sheikh Hassan Ole Nado said in a joint statement.

Raila has since called Kenyans to come out on March 20, for protests meant to pile pressure on the Kenya Kwanza administration to lower the cost of living and seek electoral reforms.

“We commit to fight, resist and defy this illegitimate regime side by side with you until our voices are heard and respected. We recognize that only through hardship and sacrifice can our cries be heard and acted on,” Raila said.
