Police arrest fourth suspect in Ksh.50M KCB Thika bank heist

Police have arrested a fourth suspect in the Ksh.50 million KCB Thika bank branch heist last month.

The suspect, Shem Karani Kirimi, a student at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) was trailed by undercover cops to his hide out in Mombasa over the weekend and arrested.

Speaking to Citizen Digital on phone, Thika OCPD Willy Simba said that the suspect was arraigned in court on Monday but police sought more time to complete their investigations. Karani is expected to be charged on Wednesday.

Police did not recover any money from the suspect.

The police boss said that they are working to ensure that all culprits involved are arrested and charged.

Karani’s arrest comes two weeks after three other suspects were arrested and charged. Police recovered Ksh.20 million was recovered.

The three; Helford Munene Murakaru 32, Charles Mwangi Murakaru 30 and Julius Ndung’u 32 were being charged with handling stolen property.

They were arrested at Marurui estate in Kiambu on Saturday, November 25, and led the investigators to Joy Land estate in Juja town where they had hidden the cash.

The amount included 1311 US dollars, 340 Great Britain Pounds, 5 Canadian Dollars, 85 Australia dollars, 46,000 Tanzania shillings, 40 South Africa rand and 20,000 Ugandan shillings.

The case is set to be mentioned on December 14 while hearing is scheduled for March 29, 2018.
