Police woman arrested after abandoning KCSE exam centre, going on a drinking spree

A police officer was on Wednesday arrested for abandoning a KCSE examination centre that she was tasked with guarding and going on a drinking spree in Matungulu, Machakos County.

Police reports say that the Administration Police constable, Rachel Wamboi, alongside her counterpart Elias Kiptoo had been assigned dusk-to-dawn guard duties at Kisukioni exam centre when the incident occurred.

Wamboi is said to have duped Kiptoo that she was going for supper only to return to the examination centre highly intoxicated after allegedly going on a drinking spree within the township instead.

Owing to her intoxicated state, she could not properly handle a state-issued rifle, leading to her dropping it on the ground.

This prompted police corporal Joshua Komen to pick up the rifle which was notably missing its magazine. When asked for the magazine, Wamboi started resisting while hurling insults at her comrades. Komen and Kiptoo were forced to disarm Wamboi forcefully.

The two officers soon after reported the incident to Chief Inspector Ijabo Shukuri who ordered that Wamboi be transported and held at Tala Police Station.

The police boss reaffirmed that another officer had already been moved to the examination centre and that the exam container had not been breached.
