Police boss wants governor summoned over burial chaos

Migori County Police Commander, David Kirui, has directed the county’s Directorate of Criminal Investigation to summon Governor Okoth Obado and former Cabinet Minister, Ochillo Ayako, over the fracas that erupted during a funeral at North Kamagambo in Rongo on Monday when the supporters of the two political rivals clashed.

Kirui said the law must apply equally and the two political leaders must record statements over the chaos that were politically instigated.

He said the politicians must avoid inciting the youth against each other adding that they must also not ferry supporters to their functions to avoid a repeat of such incidences.

The police boss also warned political leaders against incitement saying that they will be held responsible.

On Monday, August 22, supporters of Governor Obado and those of Ayako, who is also a gubernatorial aspirant in Migori County, clashed disrupting a funeral service.

Police officers were forced to shoot in the air to disperse the charged factions.
