Police, Chief killed as bandits strike

Two Kenya Police Reservists (KPRs) and a chief were on Wednesday killed after armed bandits raided Lomelo village in Turkana East.

The village, which is located in the volatile Kapedo area at the border of Turkana, Baringo and East Pokot, is located some 345 kms north of the Capital Nairobi.

The more than one hundred heavily armed bandits are said to have descended on the village at around 11:00 am shooting indiscriminately at the villagers who were fleeing fortheir lives.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Baringo County Commissioner, Peter Okwanyo, said that the incident has raised tension in the area and residents have fled to the neighbouring villages.

The bandits, believed to have come from the neighbouring Pokot area, are reported to have crossed to Turkana county in what seems as a retaliatory attack.

They made away with hundreds of goats and sheep and are said to have driven them to the deadly Suguta Valley.

Commissioner Okwanyo said the government has since beefed up security in the area and that the Anti-Stock Theft Unit police officers have been dispatched to retrieve the stolen livestock.
