Police disrupt UDA mobilization meeting in Kirinyaga

Police on Tuesday disrupted a meeting of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) convened in Kerugoya, Kirinyaga County.

According to Kirinyaga County Police Commander Leah Kithei, they had not been informed of the meeting attended by UDA supporters among them Kirinyaga businessman Andrew Ngirici.

Kithei said the meeting had not been approved, adding that political gatherings remain suspended in the country as part of COVID-19 containment measures.

The mobilization meeting had brought together youths and supporters of UDA from Kirinyaga County.

Ngirici, who was leading the meeting, was forced to flee after police officers reported to be acting on a tip off arrived at the venue.

Drama was also witnessed as those who attended the meeting resisted police orders.
