Police kill tourists’ robber, in pursuit of two others

Police in Diani, Kwale County are in pursuit of a gang that is allegedly terrorizing locals and foreigners along the Indian Ocean beach area.

It is believed that the gang of eight has been attacking the residents, especially tourists in the area, and robbing them off and sometimes even killing their victims if they do not give in to their demands.

According to Msambweni OCPD, Joseph Chebusut, police shot dead one suspect on Sunday, March 12 at Kanu area. The deceased was in company of three others who managed to escape.

“Our officers laid an ambush in that area on a possible route we suspected the gang would use. Fortunate enough our suspects emerged from a thicket and challenged the officers, one suspect was fatally injured and the other three ran with gun wounds,” he said.

The police got a tip from members of the public that the heavily armed gang was conducting criminal activities in the area including Ukunda Township.

Chebusut called on residents not to hesitate informing the police of any information concerning the case.

“We are also appealing to the members of the public to volunteer any information about the gang of the 8 members and the information shall remain confidential,” he added.
