Police nab three suspected Peddy Gang members in Kisumu
Police in Kisumu County are holding three youths
aged 16, 17 and 18 who are suspected to be part of a gang identified as Peddy
Gang.
The gang is believed to be behind a spate of
robberies especially around Nyalenda slums and its environs.
The officers who were on patrol on Saturday
evening responded to a distress call around Kachok area along the Kisumu-Nairobi
highway of mob justice being meted on a man.
The officers managed to rescue the victim who
was one of the suspects. It was established that he was being beaten after he attacked
and robbed a passer-by.
The said robbery victim was being given first
aid by a passerby since he was hit on the mouth by the suspect using a fist
which had five heavy signet rings, locally known as "Peteko", and as
a result of the blow he lost two teeth.
Kisumu County Commissioner Josephine Ouko said
the suspect robbed the 21 year old man of his phone worth Ksh.29,000, headphones
and Ksh.300 cash.
He said upon interrogation, the suspect who is
a high school student in Nakuru County told police that he was part of a four-man
gang named Peddy Gang.
He took police to their hideout in Nyalenda
where two of his two accomplices aged 16 and 17 were nabbed, the gang was found
wearing branded t-shirts bearing their aliases.
