Police officers arrested ferrying illicit alcohol in gov’t vehicle

Two Administration Police (AP) officers were Sunday arrested in Mumias, Kakamega County, after they were caught allegedly ferrying illicit liquor in a police vehicle.

The officers; Harison Kwambai and Meshack Musembi were arrested alongside a trader identified as Tabitha Ngera at Mayoni area after members of the public reported that the vehicle was ferrying suspicious goods.

Confirming the incident, Mumias police boss Peter Kattam said the illicit liquor is believed to have been sneaked into the country through the Busia border and was being ferried to Kakamega Town.

The nabbed alcohol, which was in sachets, was estimated to be worth Ksh.200,000.

The three were detained at Mumias Police Station as further investigations continue.
