Police in Kirinyaga County have launched investigations into the gruesome killing of 22-year-old college student Jackline Ruguru, whose mutilated body was discovered a week after she went missing.

The shocking find, made in a coffee plantation near Gichugu village, has left residents shaken and her family devastated.

Ruguru, a first-year student at Embu College, was last seen more than seven days ago. Her family reported her disappearance at Kiamutugu Police Station and mounted an extensive search.

That search ended in tragedy when her decomposed and severely disfigured body was found in a farm in Ngotho. According to police and residents at the scene, the body was discovered without the head and with several other parts missing.

The brutal nature of the killing has sparked fear and outrage in the community, with residents calling for swift action from law enforcement.

Ruguru’s family is demanding the immediate arrest of those behind what they describe as an inhumane and senseless murder.

Meanwhile, Nairobi police are conducting a separate investigation into the death of 23-year-old Lorna Kathambi Karani, a fourth-year student at Daystar University.

Karani died after falling from the 12th floor of an apartment in Ngara, where she had reportedly been spending the evening with friends.

Detectives at Parklands Police Station say it remains unclear whether her fall was accidental or the result of foul play. Seven individuals—including her boyfriend, who was present at the time—have been detained as investigators piece together the circumstances leading to her death.
