Police are investigating the death of interior decorator Geoffrey Mwathi, who died after falling from the 10th floor of Redwood Apartments under mysterious circumstances.

Mwathi, 23, is said to have died after falling from the 10th-floor apartment window at a house rented out to popular Kikuyu benga artist and DJ Fatxo, real name Lawrence Njuguna.

According to reports, the late Mwathi was hired by the DJ to spruce up the interiors of two spaces: an office and a shop.

DJ Fatxo is known for his "Ndi Mang'a" banger. He also runs a deejaying school.

The interior decorator is said to have left his house on February 21 to meet with the deejay and finalise business details.

WhatsApp recordings released by his mother, who is currently eking out a living in Qatar, showed Mwathi pleading with his mother for money in order to attend the meeting in Ruiru.

"Mum aki si unitumie 200 sahii DJ Fatxo amenichatisha ameniambia tumeet na sina doh, nangoja doh jioni," Mwathi could be heard saying in a audio obtained by Inooro TV.

"Sawa mum, acha niende, nakaa smart nitaenda kupiga picha na yeye tukipatana nitakupigia picha uone,"

Mwathi would send his mother another voice clip hours later, this time saying he had met the DJ and was on Kiambu Road, having toured the two spaces he was to decorate.

According to a statement recorded by DJ Fatxo at the Kasarani Police station, on the day he met Mwathi, they went to four different clubs, beginning with Bliss Bistro and ending at Quiver's Lounge on Thika Road.

CCTV footage from the Redwood apartments shows Mwathi with DJ Fatxo and three unidentified women returning to the DJ's apartment around 3 am.

According to the police report, there was another man, a relative of the DJ, who arrived at the apartment in a different car.

The DJ was seen on CCTV leaving his apartment with the three women around 4 am, while Mwathi was left in the house with two other men.

It's unclear what happened, but CCTV footage shows two men in the apartment's parking lot scanning the area.

The deejay's cousin is also seen making several phone calls before returning to the apartment.

Seven minutes later, CCTV footage showed Mwathi falling from the apartment, perplexing police and neighbours.

According to his uncle, Muchoki Mwathi, the late interior decorator was found dead with his pants pulled down to his knees.

Pathologists at the City Mortuary, where an autopsy was performed, were unable to determine whether the late Mwathi had been sexually assaulted because it had been 72 hours since the incident.

According to statements filed by the disc jokey and the two men present at his house during the incident, the late Mwathi jumped to his death.

They claim to have discovered Mwathi's death after the DJ returned home around 9 a.m., informing them of the situation outside the apartment.

Meanwhile, Mwathi's family has dismissed the suicide narrative, claiming that the interior decorator had never considered suicide.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
