Police officers from Ndurio Police Post, Nandi County, are pursuing a suspect found ferrying 1,350 litres of liquid suspected to be ethanol on Friday, September 12.

According to the National Police Service (NPS), officers flagged down a white Toyota Harrier while on duty at Ndurio Trading Centre.

Upon noticing the police roadblock, the driver evaded the scene by making a U-turn, prompting a chase. He later abandoned the vehicle, which was subsequently taken to Kobujoi Police Station in Nandi County.

“The officers recovered three sets of number plates, forty-five jerricans each containing 30 litres of a liquid suspected to be ethanol; two rolls of cannabis sativa; one mobile phone; and a laminated smart driving license,” reported the NPS.

The law enforcement body added that the vehicle was detained while the recovered items were secured as exhibits.

Elsewhere, police officers in Bura Police Station, Tana River County, arrested two suspects who were in possession of 40 litres of illicit brew each during their daytime patrol. The brew was taken and secured as an exhibit.

“The National Police Service commends the officers for their vigilance and remains committed to the fight against illicit brews, which continue to pose a serious threat to public health and safety,” the NPS added.
