Police teargas striking Eldoret nurses

Police in Eldoret town were on Wednesday, June 28 afternoon forced to lob teargas to disperse striking Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital nurses who took to the streets over pay hike demands.

The over 800 nurses were dispersed after they attempted to barricade roads leading to the referral hospital.

Led by Kenya National Union of Nurses, Eldoret branch chairman, Kennedy Orangi, the nurses claimed the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) conducted a skewed job evaluation exercise which they say discriminated the nurses.

Meanwhile, the Kenya Union of Clinical Workers has threatened to down tools by Friday.

Secretary General, George Gibore, says they are against implementation of the new job group proposal.
