Police to issue clearance certificates to all aspirants

Police will now issue clearance certificates to all aspirants and members of the public who have applied irrespective of whether they have been convicted, acquitted, discharged or have pending court cases.

According to Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet, the police clearance certificates will now have the status of the applicant, whether they have a criminal record or indicate nil if there is none.

In a statement to the press sent through Assistant IG George Kinoti, Boinnet indicated that if an applicant had a court case and was acquitted or appealed successfully that record will be expunged from the criminal data.

If convicted, records will be retained for 20 years before being expunged but will be permanent if convicted of murder, treason, robbery, rape and those that are drug-related.
