Pope Francis accepts resignation of Cardinal John Njue as Nairobi Archbishop

Pope Francis has formally accepted the resignation of Cardinal John Njue as the Archbishop of Nairobi.

The Pope, while accepting the resignation, also appointed Nairobi Auxiliary Bishop David Kamau as the Nairobi Archdiocese administrator.

The announcement was made by the Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya Archbishop Hubertus van Megen in a letter to the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) and seen by Citizen Digital.

“I wish to inform you that His Holiness Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of His Eminence John Cardinal Njue as the Archbishop of Nairobi,” read the letter.

“At the same time Right Reverend David Kamau, Auxiliary Bishop of Nairobi, has been appointed Apostolic Administrator of the same Archdiocese.”

Bishop Kamau has been serving in the archdiocese since December 22, 1999 as the Auxiliary Bishop of Nairobi.
