Uganda's internet service providers have been given the daunting task of blocking pornographic websites.

The government on Wednesday vowed to give a directive demanding the blocking of adult content to protect the nation's innocent youth from the perils of online pornography.

The government's intention is to shield young people from explicit material, predators, and offensive social media posts.

The move comes after Uganda Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa tasked the government to block all pornographic content.

"Our children are exposed to cartoons of violence, our teens are exposed to pornography. In Muslim countries, pornography is blocked. Tell me how much we can lose as an economy if we blocked pornography sites in the country. Pornography is killing us," said Tayebwa.

In 2017, the Ugandan government formed a "pornographic control committee" charged with the responsibility of detecting and prohibiting pornographic material within the country's borders.

This committee even went as far as spending Ksh.12 million to acquire a "special machine" that could supposedly detect all pornographic content in Uganda.
