President Kenyatta congratulates Trump on his victory

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday congratulated US President-elect Donald Trump after the Republican stunned his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton in the race to White House.

Trump won the hotly contested race after winning key battleground states including, Florida and Ohio.

“The American people have spoken, and they have spoken clearly. They have chosen Donald Trump as their 45th President,” Said Kenyatta

The Head of State also praised Hillary Clinton for “her valiant effort.”

In a statement, President Kenyatta affirmed that the ties that bind Kenya and the US are close and strong.

“They are old, and based in the values that we hold dear: in democracy, in the rule of law, and in the equality of peoples. These values remain dear to the peoples of both nations, and so our friendship will endure,” said President Kenyatta
