Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has appointed his son, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba as the new Chief of Defence Forces (CDF).

Muhoozi's appointment as the new military boss was announced Thursday evening during a Cabinet reshuffle by President Museveni.

He takes over from Gen Mbasu Mbadi who was appointed as Minister for Trade, according to a report on the Monitor.

Prior to the appointment as CDF, Gen Muhoozi was serving as his father's senior presidential advisor in charge of special operations.

General Muhoozi has previously announced that he will succeed his father as the next president.
