President Ruto appoints internal affairs chief Amin Ibrahim as DCI boss

President William Ruto has appointed Amin Mohamed Ibrahim as the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss.

The appointment was Gazetted in a notice dated October 14, 2022.

Before his appointment, Ibrahim headed the Internal Affairs Unit and had also served in various capacities including heading the CID Investigations Bureau and the Banking Fraud Investigations Unit among other senior positions. 

At the Internal Affairs Unit, Amin was involved in investigating complaints against police.

DCI, in a tweet, said, Amin's "vast experience in the field of investigations within and outside the Directorate will without doubt inject new blood to the country’s foremost investigative agency and address the ever changing crime dynamics. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations welcomes Mr Amin Ibrahim Mohammed back home."

The National Police Service Commission had shortlisted 10 candidates to fill the position of Director of Criminal investigations that was left vacant after the resignation of George Kinoti. 

On Tuesday, October 11, the 10 faced a panel for interviews conducted at the Kenya School of Government, lower Kabete in Nairobi.

Others who had been shortlisted for the job included, Bernard Barasa Walumoli, Eliud Kipkoech Lagat, Gideon Nyale Munga, Esther Chepkosgei Seroney and David Kipkosgey Birech.

Others were Jonyo Michael Wiso, Nicholas Ireri Kamwende, Paul Jimmie Ndambuki and Dr. Simon Mwangi Wanderi.
