President William Ruto is set to depart the country on Wednesday evening to attend the Global Pact Finance Summit in Paris, France.

In a statement to newsrooms, State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed said the Summit aims to "reimagine the global finance system and foster the creation of a more inclusive financial architecture."

"The President considers the Summit as a critical platform to make bold proposals towards the establishment of a new Multilateral Climate Finance Institutional Architecture," said Mohamed.

While underscoring the impact of climate change in relevance to Kenya, Africa and the world at large, the State House spokesperson said the head of state strongly advocates for a new architecture for international financial institutions that is equitable, inclusive and adequate in financing sustainable development together with climate action.

According to the Spokesperson, President Ruto considers the Summit as a critical platform to submit proposals towards the establishment of a new Multilateral Climate Finance Institutional Architecture.

President Ruto is expected to highlight the urgent need to move beyond incremental measures that effectively combat the climate crisis and which fail to generate investment benefits for Africa.

"Climate change discussions have in the past primarily focused on loss and damage, strongly anchored around the ideologies of blame, victimhood, aid and reparations, neglecting the important dialogue about opportunities, investments and trade that would showcase Africa's abundant endowments of hydro, wind, solar, and geothermal energy sources, as well as essential transition minerals," read the statement.

Consequently, the State Hosue spokesperson notes that this year's Africa Climate Summit is scheduled to take place from 4th to 6th of September in Nairobi.
