President William Ruto has led the nation in mourning the passing of veteran broadcaster and Director of State Events, Sammy Lui, who died at his home in Subukia, Nakuru County on Thursday.

In his message of condolence, President Ruto described the late Lui as “a dedicated public servant, a veteran broadcaster, and a respected State Master of Ceremonies whose voice became part of Kenya’s national identity.”

From his early days as one of Kenya’s pioneer journalists at the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) to his distinguished service at the Presidential Press Service, and later as Director of State Events, Sammy Lui’s career spanned decades of dedication to public communication and national service.

“Sammy Lui’s powerful and authoritative voice graced countless national ceremonies, guiding the nation through moments of pride, celebration, and reflection. His professionalism, humility, and commitment to excellence set a standard for generations of broadcasters and public servants,” President Ruto said.

The Head of State added that Lui’s “huge contribution to Kenya’s media industry and his influence on young broadcasters will remain etched in our collective memory.”

Colleagues in the media fraternity and government have also paid glowing tributes to Lui, describing him as a mentor, patriot, and a man whose passion for his craft inspired many.

The President extended his condolences to Lui’s family, friends, and colleagues, praying for strength and comfort during this difficult time.
