President William Ruto has nominated Claris Awour Onganga as Chairperson of the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR), days after Dr. Duncan Oburu Ojwang’ declined the position.

In a statement issued on Friday, August 15, State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed said the President had also nominated John Cox Lorionokou as the Registrar of Political Parties, replacing Sophia Sitati, who has been serving in an acting capacity.

Sitati was appointed in an interim role following the elevation of Ann Nderitu to the position of commissioner at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Additionally, the President has nominated Agatha Wanjiku Wahome as Assistant Registrar of Political Parties.

“The President has formally transmitted these nominations to the National Assembly for consideration and approval, as required by law,” the statement read.

The nominees will now face vetting by the National Assembly before assuming their respective roles.
