President Ruto made the announcement on Tuesday as he reiterated his commitment that the Kenya Kwanza mega project would secure employment for millions of Kenyan youth.
“The Affordable Housing Project is on course. So far, 70,000 units are at advanced stages of construction across the country,” Ruto stated.
“Besides addressing the housing gap faced by the growing urban low-income population, this progressive project also presents huge opportunities for gainful employment to millions of our youth struggling to earn a living and entrepreneurs.”
The president was speaking in Mukuru, Nairobi while assessing the progress of the 14,000-unit Mukuru Met Social Housing Project.
He was accompanied by State Department for Housing and Urban Development Principal Secretary Charles Hinga among other leaders.
This comes even as the current regime targets to build at least 250,000 houses every year, for the next five years, a project that could see over six million Kenyans living in informal settlements get decent and affordable houses.
