President William
Ruto will on Thursday embark on a three-day official tour of Kisii, Nyamira as
well as Kuria East and West Constituencies.
Addressing
the press in Kisii County, State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed said the
President's itinerary will feature the launching of a number of key projects in
the region in line with the Kenya Kwanza government's bottom-up economic
agenda.
"The head of
state is expected to launch the upgrading of the 33.3Km Gekano-Rigoma-Amabuko
Road, the upgrading of Nyabohanse – Kumumwamu Road and
Nyaburu-Oboke-Ragwe," said Mohamed during the presser.
"During his
tour of the region, the President will launch the upgrading of the 33.3Km
Gekano-Rigoma-Amabuko Road, the upgrading of Nyabohanse – Kumumwamu Road and
Nyaburu-Oboke-Ragwe roads."
President Ruto will
also commission the Kegati Water project in Kisii and proposed affordable
housing project in Sironga, Nyamira County.
The president will
similarly hold meetings with a number of elected leaders from the region.
Mohamed also
announced the State's plan to supply more than 300,000 MT of various types of
fertilizers to farmers during the rainy season.
"As we all
know, fertilizers play a crucial role in increasing crop yields and enhancing
productivity. However, the high costs have been a major challenge for our
farmers, limiting their ability to fully utilize their lands and reap maximum
profits," said Mohamed.
"That is why
the President took bold steps to address this issue by providing subsidies to
farmers, making fertilizers more accessible and affordable, reducing the price
from Ksh.7500 to Ksh.3500. He is doing this in a manner that will get rid of
cartels and brokers so that farmers can get what they deserve."
To access the
Government subsidized fertilizers, a farmer must be digitally registered and
the digital registration is ongoing at the Assistant Chief’s offices
countrywide.
"Digitization
is a key plank of the government’s agenda and is not only important for
efficiency but to also enhance traceability, accountability and transparency in
fertilizer distribution," said this Sttate House Spokesperson.
"Registered
farmers can access fertiliser at KNTC and NCPB stores and once again the
government urges farmers to register, access fertilizer, take advantage of the
onset of rains and plant."
