Baringo County government is ready to host the ninth Kimalel Goat Auction with President William Ruto expected to grace the annual event, Governor Benjamin Cheboi, has announced.

The event, held every December at the Kimalel grounds in Baringo South constituency was suspended for two years in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The three-day event is scheduled to kick off on Wednesday, December 13 with the climax being on Thursday when President Ruto is expected to be the chief guest. The auction expects to sell around 3,000 goats.

Baringo Governor Benjamin Cheboi said the event will incorporate cultural events which will be showcased on Wednesday and will include a traditional boat road race called “Kaldich” at Lake Baringo and sporting activities involving all the communities living in Baringo.

The theme for this year is 'Harmony and Heritage' to celebrate unity and diversity. Governor Cheboi said his county has suffered bandit attacks hence the need to host events that will bring the community together with the hopes of reducing hostilities.
