President Uhuru Kenyatta leaves for state visit in Israel

President Uhuru Kenyatta has departed for a three-day state visit to Israel in a visit designed to cement trade, investment and security bonds between Kenya and Israel.

President Kenyatta is expected to meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other senior government officials in a bid to increase cooperation and trade between the two countries.

Kenya has been a beneficiary of continued assistance from the Government of Israel in various fields including security matters by supporting the training of security personnel and providing technical assistance.

Kenya and Israel have concluded several cooperation agreements in defence, water resources, fisheries, education, technology and scientific co-operation.

The president’s visit hopes to heighten the cooperation between the two states to combat increasing security threats and to expand the volume of trade between Kenya and Israel.

East African Community Summit (EAC)

Following his trip to Israel, President Uhuru Kenyatta will attend the 17th Summit of East African Community Heads of State, which will take place on the 29th of February in Tanzania.

During the meeting, the Heads of State are expected to launch the landmark East African e-Passport (electronic-Passport) that will further enable the free movement of persons within the region.

The leaders are also expected to review the situation in Burundi.

President Dos Santos’s visit to Kenya

Later in the year, Kenya will play host to Angola President Jose Eduardo Dos Santos from May 17-18.

This will be the first such visit by an Angolan leader to Kenya.
