New matatu hostesses excite commuters in Nakuru

Prestige Sacco in Nakuru has sparked huge interest after the matatu company introduced hostesses for commuters.

In Kenya, hostesses are mostly known to serve passengers in airplanes and not public service vehicles (PSVs) where touts are charged with collecting fare and opening the door for passengers to board or disembark the vehicle.

Prestige Sacco said they realised that this created an inconvenience for long distance commuters who require additional services.

“When a customer comes to our station, they are taken to the office to buy their ticket. If they have luggage it is safely carried to the vehicle and they are shown to their seats, ” Prestige Sacco General Manager Steve Wambua.

The hostesses ensure that passengers are comfortable right from departure to their destinations, he added.

According to Mr. Wambua, the service began two years ago with only three ladies but because of increased demand they have employed more of them not only for Nakuru but Nairobi and Busia termini as well.
