Probe after man found dead inside bar in Kericho

Police in Bureti, Kericho County, are investigating an incident in which locals attacked a bar and damaged property after a man was found dead outside the entertainment joint.

It is alleged that the deceased, identified as Wesley Tanui, spent the entire afternoon of December 25 drinking at Digital Bar.

His body was discovered outside the establishment the following day, raising tension and questions over what transpired.

Following the discovery, angry residents took to the streets and vandalised property at the bar, prompting police intervention to restore calm and normalcy.

“Watoto tumezaa lakini tunalia na kulalamika sana kwa sababu ya hii pombe. Tunataka hii pombe ifungwe kabisa,” said a sister to the deceased Karen Chepkemoi.

“Ni uchungu sana kupoteza brother yetu jana. Cheplanget ni town ndogo lakini bars ni karibu kumi. Watu wafungue vitu zingine; sisi hatutaki bars huku. Murkomen uko wapi? Tunataka hizi bars zote zifungwe.”

“Tumepoteza watu karibu sit ana mwaka moja ata haujaisha. Juzi tulipoteza mtu alafu jana Boxing Day tulilia ten ana sasa tumeona hasara ya pombe,” said another resident.
