PS Karugu calls for stronger regional collaboration to advance EAC education and culture agenda

Speaking while chairing the Principal Secretaries' Session of the 20th Meeting of the Sectoral Council on Education, Science and Technology, and Culture, held at the EAC Secretariat in Arusha, Tanzania, Dr. Karugu underscored the critical role of collective effort in building a cohesive and prosperous East African region.
The meeting brought together Principal Secretaries, Permanent Secretaries, Undersecretaries, senior officials, and experts from all EAC Partner States to deliberate on key policy matters in education, science and technology, culture, and sports.
The session also reviewed progress made by specialised EAC institutions, including the Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA), the East African Science and Technology Commission (EASTECO), and the East African Kiswahili Commission (EAKC).
Kenya was represented by Prof. Abdulrazak Shaukat, Principal Secretary for Science, Research and Innovation; Dr. Beatrice Inyangala, Principal Secretary for Higher Education; Dr. Esther Thaara Mworia, Principal Secretary for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET); and Mr. Elijah Mwangi, Principal Secretary for Sports.
Dr. Karugu called on EAC Partner States to prioritise actionable strategies that will drive sustainable development in the region, emphasising that education, culture, and sports are vital pillars for building regional identity and fostering long-term integration.
