Suspected Al Shabaab militants are reported to have abducted six people among them a Principal Secretary and government officials at Milihoi, Lamu County.

The PS, State Department of Public Works, Maryam Al-Maawy, and five others have since been rescued by elite KDF, GSU forces hours after the abduction.

While confirming the incident, Coast Administration Police boss, James Akoru, said that the incident occurred at 3:00 pm, further adding that GSU officers have already been dispatched to the scene.

“We are yet to receive proper information about the incident but the reports we have is that a vehicle has been hijacked,” said Mr Akoru.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that the vehicle had a top government official who was heading to Witu to visit displaced families.

The official had attended a meeting on Lamu Port (LAPSSET) at Huduma centre in Lamu town before heading to Witu.
