PS for interior Raymond Omollo has called for calm as a probe into the mysterious death of blogger Albert Ojwang’ in police custody is ongoing.

PS Omollo said authorities are piecing up details regarding the incident that occurred on Saturday night after Ojwang’ was arrested in Homabay by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

The blogger was then transferred to Nairobi and booked to Central Police Station and reportedly suffered self-inflicted injuries after he allegedly hit his head on the cell walls.

PS Omollo said the government cannot pre-empt on what killed Ojwang' who was arrested on the accusation of publishing false information against a senior police officer.

The family of the deceased Ojwang are now piling pressure on police to provide information on how their kin died just hours after being arrested by the DCI officers.

A police report claims that Ojwang' died by suicide, after an officer on a routine visit to his cell was locked in found him “with blood oozing from his head.”

The Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has also interdicted all police officers who were on duty at the Central police station when Ojwang' died.

The incident has sparked public uproar, as most citizens are now calling for an expeditious probe.
