Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has called on the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to bolster its focus on fighting for human rights.

Speaking at the launch of a five-day induction training of new IPOA commissioners, PS Omollo reiterated that IPOA serves as a vital link between the police and the public and should therefore promote accountability and transparency.

"As the new members of the IPOA Board, you now carry the profound responsibility of ensuring that policing in Kenya adheres to the highest standards of accountability and respect for human rights and dignity,” Omollo stated.

“Your work is instrumental in restoring faith and confidence in our justice system."

While highlighting the government’s commitment to foster a human-rights-centered approach in law enforcement, Omollo assured the new board members of the state’s support as they execute their mandate.

He also urged the new commissioners to prioritize systemic reforms that foster fairness and social cohesion.

“You now carry the profound responsibility of ensuring that policing in Kenya adheres to the highest standards of accountability and respect for human rights and dignity," Omollo stated.

On his part, Police Deputy Inspector General Gilbert Masengeli affirmed that the police were committed to upholding professionalism and ethical practices.
