PSC extends deadline for Principal Secretary position applications

The Public Service Commission (PSC) has extended the deadline for submission of applications for the Principal Secretary positions from Tuesday, September 20 to Tuesday, September 27.

PSC is recruiting Kenyans for the Principal Secretary positions to be recommended for appointment and nomination by President William Ruto. 

The commission’s Chief Executive Officer Simon Rotich announced the seven-day extension on Tuesday, calling on interested candidates to make use of the additional period to submit their applications.

“The Public Service Commission has extended the deadline for submission of applications for the advertised positions of Principal Secretaries in the public service from today 20th September 2022 to Tuesday 27th September 2022,” a notice from the commission read in part. 

“Interested applicants now have seven more days to apply for the positions that are expected to fall vacant following the General Elections held on 9th August 2022.”

Per the previous announcement which was made though a gazette notice dated September 7, PSC said the suitable candidate must have the following qualifications; 

(i) be a citizen of Kenya

(ii) hold a degree from a university recognised in Kenya

(iii) have at least ten years relevant professional experience, five years of which should have been in a leadership position or at a top management level in the public service or private sector 

(iv) possess general knowledge of the organisation and functions of Government 

(v) demonstrate an understanding of the goals, policies and developmental objectives of the nation

(vi) have demonstrable leadership and management capacity including knowledge of financial management and strategic people management

(vii) meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution on leadership and integrity.

Once they are appointed as PS, the persons’ roles will include; being the  Accounting Officer and Authorised Officer of the State Department, implementing government policies and the Strategic Plan, and facilitating the achievement of the goals and objectives of Government and Inter-Governmental programmes and projects.

They will also develop and implement an effective performance management system, ensure efficient and effective utilisation of Financial, Human and other Resources and submit regular statutory reports as required, and promote the values and principles spelt out in Articles 10 and 232 of the Constitution of Kenya in the operations of the State Department.

The legible PSs salaries and benefits will be determined by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC), and they may additionally be granted leave of absence by the PSC. 

Here is how to apply for the Principal Secretary position; 

1. Application should be accompanied by a detailed curriculum vitae, copies of relevant academic and professional certificates and transcripts, National Identity Card or Passport, testimonials and other relevant supporting documents. Scanned copies of these documents must accompany an online application.

2. All applications should be clearly marked "Application for the position of Principal Secretary" and submitted in any ONE of the following ways: 

(a) Manual applications should be hand delivered to the Office of the Secretary/CEO situated on the 4th floor of Commission House, off Harambee Avenue. 

(b) Online applications should be e-mailed in PDF format to: principalsecretary2022@publicservice.go.ke   

(c) Posted applications should be addressed to: The Secretary/CEO Public Service Commission Commission House P.O. Box 30095-00100 NAIROBI.
