Persons living with disabilities in Mandera County have issued an appeal to President William Ruto, urging him to prioritize their inclusion in key positions within his administration.

In a statement released by their chairman, Hafid Maalim, the group on Saturday emphasized the challenges they face and emphasized the importance of representation at the highest levels of government.

Maalim highlighted President Ruto's previous expressions of interest in incorporating persons with disabilities into his administration during discussions with their group.

He stated, "During his deliberations with the group, President Ruto had expressed a keen interest in incorporating PWDs in his administration to uplift the marginalized, but that was yet to be done."

The statement also credited the disabled community with playing a pivotal role in garnering support for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party among the National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD).

Additionally, they emphasized the capabilities of disabled individuals, with Maalim stating, "We believe our efforts contributed largely to the support the party got from this group."

The group further stressed the need for committed and corruption-free employees within the administration to ensure the successful implementation of the President's vision.

"For the President to succeed and have his plan implemented, then he must have employees who are committed to serving Kenyans equally and without engaging in any vices like corruption," Maalim remarked.

They also called on county governments to establish special healthcare schemes to address the financial barriers preventing disabled individuals from accessing necessary medical treatment. Maalim emphasized, "We believe our efforts contributed largely to the support the party got from this group."
