The management of Quickmart Supermarket has distanced itself from allegations of reported deaths at its branches in OTC and Ruiru.

Speculations went rife on social media that during the Wednesday anniversary protests, police officers shot some of the rioters and concealed their bodies inside the supermarket.

In a statement, Quickmart denied the claims, assuring the public that the community's well-being remains its top priority.

"While we recognize that the recent events have posed a significant challenge for these outlets, we want to emphasize that Quickmertis is deeply committed to restoring normalcy as softly as possible. We are actively engaging all necessary measures to ensure continued serviсе excellence and to support our shoppers and staff during this time," the statement read in part.

"Quickmart remains dedicated to caring for our community and will continue to keep the public informed as we work towards stability and recovery

In the meantime, customers of the two branches are advised to access our services at their nearest alternative Quickmart branch. "

The statement follows Wednesday’s protests, which degenerated into chaos as rioters vandalised property and looted businesses.

What began as a peaceful march by Gen Zs to commemorate the first anniversary of the anti-Finance Bill 2024 demonstrations quickly escalated into violent clashes between protesters and police.

According to human rights agencies, 16 fatalities and over 400 casualties were reported.
