Raila attack in Uasin Gishu: 17 people arrested with cash in Ksh.50 notes
The
National Police Service (NPS) now says 17 people have been arrested following the
Friday attack that targeted ODM leader Raila Odinga’s helicopter and vehicles
in his convoy in Uasin Gishu County.
The
former premier and his allies had just attended the burial of the late 'Men’s
Conference Chairman' Mzee Jackson Kibor in Eldoret, when rowdy youth started
pelting his chopper and entourage with stones.
NPS
spokesperson Bruno Shioso said the suspects were found in possession of cash
money in Ksh.50 denominations.
Shioso,
in a statement released on Saturday, also said the suspects were nabbed with mobile
phones which are presently aiding with forensic analysis.
“The
NPS reminds all that it is the right of every citizen to visit any part of the
county. We call upon political leaders and their supporters to accord
accommodation and tolerance to each other including those of divergent views
and opinion during this period of electioneering,” he stated.
Shioso’s
statement comes after Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Stephen Kihara had earlier
on said 14 suspects had been arrested and were helping police with
investigations.
“We’re
conducting subsequent investigations and we will nab the person who likely
organized the incident. Regardless of who was involved, he or she will face the
law and this will be a lesson for persons preaching politically instigated
violence,” Kihara had stated.
