Opposition leader Raila Odinga and Homa Bay governor Gladys Wanga were among the leaders at Siaya senator Oburu Oginga’s birthday celebration in Bondo, Siaya County on Sunday.
Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and members
of the opposition Azimio La Umoja one Kenya coalition party Jeremiah Kioni,
Mwangi Wairia, Eugene Wamalwa and Wycliffe Oparanya were some of the other
leaders in attendance.
Speaking at the ceremony, Odinga warned
President William Ruto to stop meddling in the political affairs of the Azimio coalition.
Accusing President Ruto of trying to
divide the coalition through unfounded speculations, the opposition leader maintained
that Azimio is intact and that the decision on who will be its next flagbearer
shall only be made at an appropriate time.
Odinga spoke to the president’s recent
remarks that he will only have Mr Musyoka to run against come 2027, telling
Ruto to stop belittling the Wiper leader.
“He is speaking about Kalonzo as if they
are equals, he (Musyoka)is far better than him (Ruto). He wants to divide us
with talk about who will run for the presidency, yet we ourselves have not announced
anything. We will show him he knows nothing; we will stand with Kalonzo because he is an honest person,” he said.
On his part, Kalonzo warned the
President that he should stop talking about issues of the 2027 general
elections when the contentious issues around the 2022 general elections have
not been resolved.
He added that the person who will face
President Ruto in the next election will have a walkover because Kenyans are
already fed up with the Kenya Kwanza regime.
