Kenya Flag-bearer Raila Odinga and his Running mate Martha Karua have assured
foreign investors that their administration will provide a sustainable
environment for their businesses to thrive.
Odinga and Karua
made the pledge when they met over 80 Senior Representatives of the European
Business Council in Nairobi while also promising to offer political goodwill that
would enable Kenya to be a gateway for foreign investment in the greater East and African Region.
According to
Odinga, should he clinch the presidency at the August polls, he will
implement measures that will
make it easier for businesses to thrive within and without our borders.
“I want to give
you an assurance that we are going to address these issues to make it easier
for investors and workers of companies which have invested in this company to
receive work permits as quickly as possible,” said Odinga.
Odinga likewise
noted that by offering goodwill to foreign investors Kenya will become a
trailblazer in terms of trade across the continent so much so that other
African nations will benchmark its trade-enabling framework and policies.
“We are also going
to make it much easier for start-ups to set up shop in the country. It will be
easier than it is in Rwanda. People tell you these days to benchmark with
Rwanda, I want to tell you that Rwanda will be a benchmark of Kenya,” said the
Azimio la Umoja presidential aspirant.
On her part, Karua
noted that should she and Odinga make their way into State House, their
administration will work in tandem with the masses to ensure that their
political goodwill is delivered and implemented successfully.
“When we came into
the government under Kibaki in 2002, the government demonstrated political will
and Kenyans rose up in the thousands to support the government because it is
something you cannot do without support from the masses.
“We can assure you
that we have loads of political will from the top and we will be able to garner
the necessary support from the people to undertake these duties.”
