Raila now wants IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati taken to ICC
Azimio la Umoja One Kenya
coalition party leader Raila Odinga has
welcomed President William Ruto’s pledge to investigate the conducting of the August
2022 presidential election, including events at
the Bomas of Kenya around the announcement
of the results.
This comes a couple of days after President Ruto, in a roundtable
interview with journalists, expressed hesitation
in setting up a commission to
investigate the events at Bomas prior to the announcement of the presidential
results.
“Juzi ulisikia wakisema
wabunge upande ule ati uchunguzi ufanyike kuhusu Bomas of Kenya...mimi nasema
alham dulilahi...wamechukua wale commissioners 4 ati wanashtakiwa walifanya
maovu,” he
said.
The Azimio leader said President Ruto's administration
is not honest in its probe in the general election,
defending the embattled four IEBC commissioners; Juliana Cherera, Irene Masit, Francis Wanderi and Justus Nyang’aya.
“Mpaka tusafishe takataka ya
Chebukati, yale amefanya ni crime against humanity anafaa apelekwe Hague ashatakiwe huko....kama haitafanyika hakutakuwa na
haja Wakenya 2027 waende uchaguzi,” he stated.
He further stated that he is committed to continue keeping the Azimio coalition party intact, amidst reports of
an in-house split.
“Wanasema kuwa mti kuu ukianguka
wana wa ndege huyumba, nawambia msife moyo kuna njia...na hivi karibuni nitaongea
niwaambie njia tutafuata,” he stated.
“Wananiambia ati Raila aende Bondo...mimi nikitaka kwenda Bondo
ninajua njia…lakini sio Ruto ndio ananipeleka Bondo,
Wakenya wamesema Baba aendelee,” he said.
For now, Mr. Odinga stated that he
is embarking on revamping his ODM party this year by
conducting grassroots elections to build a stronger political outfit ahead of the 2027 polls.
“Tutaanza mwaka na kusafisha
chama yetu ndio iwe imara,” he said.
