Raila Odinga hospitalised few hours after Kilifi rally

The National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential candidate, Raila Odinga, has been taken to a Mombasa hospital for a check-up with suspected food poisoning.

NASA Secretariat CEO, Norman Magaya, told Citizen Digital on the phone that Odinga was hospitalised at a Mombasa hospital, around 6:45pm, before he could board a flight back to Nairobi after feeling slightly unwell.

Odinga’s adviser Salim Lone sent a statement to newsrooms assuring Kenyans that the Opposition chief’s condition is stable.

“Mr Odinga feels quite comfortable and is being examined by a doctor at Mombasa Hospital.  The doctor feels that there is absolutely no cause for alarm. There is absolutely no reason for anyone to worry about Mr Odinga’s health,” said Lone.

Lone, in the statement, said Odinga became unwell when he was at the Mombasa International Airport awaiting his flight back to Nairobi.

“His colleagues with him, including Mr Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi, Moses Wetangula and Senator James Orengo decided that it was best that a doctor examined him before Mr Odinga took the flight to Nairobi,” said Lone.

“Mr Odinga himself felt that there was no need for this but he was persuaded by his colleagues that it was best to not travel at this time.

“We will send out another note shortly updating you on Mr Odinga’s plans,” said Lone.

Dennis Onyango, who is Raila Odinga’s communications director, said the NASA chief had earlier Sunday held successful rallies in Kilifi County.

“We suspect food poisoning but doctors are on his case and he is stable. We strongly suspect food poisoning. Governor Hassan Joho has released Doctors to attend to him,and in a short time we will update the country a better update on what is going on,” said Onyango.
