Raila promises to look for livestock market in the Middle East as he tours Wajir County
Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader
Raila Odinga has rallied the Nothern Eastern counties to back his presidential
bid in the August 9th polls.
Odinga, who led Azimio la Umoja movement
campaigns in Wajir County on Wednesday, said he will turn the region into a
global livestock market by investing in meat factories.
“Chakula ya ng’ombe tutaweka…ili wakati wa
ukame, ng’ombe wako na chakula. Hapa Wajir tutaleta kichinjio kubwa…slaughterhouse
and meat processing. Hapa Wajir iko na kiwanja kubwa ya ndege, itakuwa inatoka
hapa na nyama ikipeleka kule Uarabuni,” he said.
Odinga, who also opened the Azimio la Umoja
party headquarters in Wajir County, said the region will benefit from his
social welfare fund that seeks to have poor households get Ksh.6,000 from his
government monthly.
“Kuna wale watu ambao hawana chochote…kwa
mfano sasa mifugo inakufa kwa sababu ya ukosefu wa maji…hiyo jamii yote kila
mwezi itapata shilingi elfu sita kutoka kwa serikali,” said the former premier.
The ODM leader also promised to open up the Northern
counties to the counties national power grid.
“Tunajua Wajir ni mji ambayo inapanuka kwa
haraka kabisa, lakini stima hakuna ya kutosha. Tutaleta stima hapa Wajir tena
kwa bei nafuu kwa wakaaji ili tuweze kuanzisha viwanda hapa, bijana wapate
kazi,” said Odinga.
Odinga returns to Meru County on Thursday
after receiving a major boost from the backing of the Devolution Empowerment
Party led by Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi.
