Raila should record statement with DCI over Dubai fake gold DP Ruto aides

Deputy President Dr William Ruto’s aides now want the DCI to interrogate ODM leader Raila Odinga over his alleged links to the fake gold racket, which has sucked Kenya’s top leaders.

Speaking in Narok East Constituency on Saturday, May 25, the DP’s confidants, including area Woman Representative Soipan Tuya, suggested there was “compelling evidence” that Mr Odinga participated in the alleged gold crime.

“We call on the investigating agencies to do their work over the fake gold. If Mr Odinga does not record a statement, then we would know that the DCI is engaging in a cover up,” said Ms Tuya.

“We are now at risk of being tagged criminals by foreigners. Yet, for a long time, we have guarded our image globally,” said the lawmaker.

Narok East MP, Ken Aramat, accused Mr Odinga of “duping” the country into believing he is an anti-graft crusader.

“Yet they would move around the country purporting to be anti-corruption crusaders. What an irony?” posed Mr Aramat.

DP Ruto, on his end, steered clear of the gold politics, instead saying he would continue launching development projects across Kenya.

Dr Ruto presided over the launch of development projects in the area, his communications team said.

The DP’s aides’ remarks come just a day after Mr Odinga claimed he was a whistle blower in the fake gold scandal.

Mr Odinga said the fake gold conmen had called Dubai Sheikh representative in his presence, when he exposed the scammers as fraudulent upon hearing the voice of a fake Interior CS Fred Matiang’I over the phone.

On Friday, May 24, Raila Odinga defended Mr Matiang’i over his alleged involvement in the fake gold saga.

He described Mr Matiang’i as a hard-working State officer whom the Building Bridges Initiative and President Uhuru Kenya enlisted to fight corruption.

The opposition leader claimed the CS, who at one time worked in his office, was being fought by his detractors including impersonating him.

Raila said investigations into the bogus gold will expose the culprits and the truth unearthed.

He was speaking during the funeral of the late Dr. David Gilbert Ombati, his family physician, at Manga Isecha in Kisii county.
