Raila tells President Ruto to stop forcing Gov’t projects on Kenyans
Azimio la Umoja
One Kenya coalition party leader Raila Odinga has slammed President William
Ruto for allegedly using State resources to push his affordable housing project
through.
Speaking in
Mombasa on Saturday when he led an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party
recruitment drive in the region, Mr. Odinga noted that President Ruto's actions
undermine the spirit of the Constitution.
"Wewe unatoka
kama serikali na kifua unasema mpende msipende...wakati wa mpende msipende
ilikwenda...hiyo tulitoa," he said.
Mr. Odinga further
asserted that the opposition is not opposed to the plan, however stating that
the government is yet to come clear on how the project will be implemented, who
is to benefit and how.
The opposition
chief subsequently urged President Ruto to initiate dialogue to resolve the
stalemate.
"Affordable
housing inatakikana lakini mpaka ifanywe na mpango watu waelewane hii mpango
itafanywa namna gani, tutaanza wapi, tutamalizia wapi, nani atatoa pesa, nani
atafaidika na pesa itatoka wapi," he said.
Mr. Odinga, who
concluded his week-long tour of the Coast region on Saturday, additionally condemned
the Changamwe demolitions that have left tens of families in the cold.
"Huwezi
kubomoa manyumba ya watu bila kuwaonyesha wataenda wapi...kuna wazee, wamama
wakongwe, watoto wachanga...hii ni unyama mtupu, tunalaani vikali," said
the ODM boss.
In Bungoma DAP-K
party leader Eugene Wamalwa asked President Ruto to refund all the money
collected by the government under the housing levy a day after the court
suspended its implementation.
"Ile pesa
ulichukuwa kinyume na sheria tunataka hizo pesa zirudishiwe Wakenya mara
moja," said Wamalwa.
