Raila to Ruto: I dont need Uhurus support to defeat you

Azimio La Umoja One Kenya presidential candidate Raila Odinga has hit out at Deputy President William Ruto for criticising President Uhuru Keyatta’s support of Odinga’s presidential bid.

Speaking Sunday while campaigning in Homa Bay County, Mr. Odinga said he will defeat Dr. Ruto on August 9 by a large margin, even without President Kenyatta's support.

“I will give him a run for his money… I am beating him hands-down come next month,” said Odinga.

DP Ruto urged Mr. Kenyatta to hold off on openly endorsing Odinga so that he could defeat him in the race for the State House while on a vote-hunting mission in the Central region on Saturday.

“When you needed a friend to stand with you, I stood with you. Raila never stood with you, Martha Karua never stood with you, I am not asking for you to support me, I am asking you to give me space so that I can deal with Raila,” stated Ruto.

He added: “I am asking my brother Uhuru Kenyatta, mimi sishindani na wewe my friend, mimi nashindanda na Raila, wewe simama kando. I want Uhuru Kenyatta to step aside, huyo Raila nitammalizia asubuhi na mapema.”

Odinga's foot soldiers, led by ODM deputy leader Hassan Joho similarly warned the DP against attacking their boss, adding that the Kenya Kwanza camp should brace themselves for Odinga's presidency.

While urging his supporters to treat the impending elections with the seriousness they merit, Odinga laid out his plans for the area.

The Azimio team is finishing up a four-day campaign in the Nyanza region by traveling throughout Homa Bay county.

Mr. Odinga is in the President Kenyatta succession race alongside DP Ruto, Roots Party leader Prof. George Wajackoyah and Agano Party’s David Mwaure.
