Realme makes inroads in Kenya’s smartphone market with new budget phone

Competition in Kenya’s smartphone market has moved a notch higher. This follows the official entry of Realme C2IY phone into the Kenyan market.

The launch of Realme C2IY comes at a time when the mobile phone industry has been hit by challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, with buyers now cautious of their budgets as they seek affordable but quality phones. This has led phone manufacturers to strategize to meet market demands for budget phones.

Consequently, one of the leading smartphone brands, realme, took advantage of the new market demands to launch new models of budget phones in the Kenyan market.

The new realme C21Y, the world’s first smartphone with TÜV Rheinland High Reliability Certification, is another addition to the expanding footprint of the realme brand across the Kenyan smartphone market. This follows a successful launch and performance in the market of the realme C11 from the entry level C-Series category of realme smartphones which was launched in 2020 and the C11 2021 which came in early this year.

“Our Kenyan consumers have made us proud. The speed at which they have embraced our products puts a clear signature on what we have been saying all along about us understanding their needs and being kind on their pockets in terms of affordability,” said Mildred Agoya, PR & Marketing Manager, realme Kenya.

Realme C21Y has a 13 Mega Pixel primary camera, which can zoom up to 4X and supports PDAF autofocus. The device has a 6.5” HD+ mini-drop fullscreeen, with the screen to body ratio as high as 89.5%. supports ultra-fast fingerprint unlocking in seconds, but also supports facial recognition, which can be easily unlocked with a single click or glance.

The new phone will retail at a price range of Ksh. 12,400 and Ksh. 13,700 depending on the size of the storage on the phone.

“We know what our customers want. We also know that tech trends keep on shifting. We are always on the run trying to keep up with the trends to make sure that our customers are happy,” added Agoya.

The company plans to launch the realme GT Master edition phone, which is a high end phone in the next one month to meet the upcoming need for high end models.
